High Goals, Zero Expectations
You would think this wouldn't need to be spelled out; but
so many people question me about it, here it is: One can simply have No Expectations, and, true enough, they will be unlikely to be disappointed if their expectations are not met when they pour their heart into a project; but they may also be likely to use this sentiment as a cheap rationalization for a lack of personal motivation.

High Goals, when expressed by themselves have their own problems - they can represent the creation of  a desire, an attachment or an attachment to a desire, all of which imply having expectations.

So marrying the two concepts (to me),  represents staying motivated, maintaining the staying speed, the critical velocity; while simultaneously expecting nothing from the universe for your efforts.
At that point, every personal achievement regardless of how small, becomes a phenomenal success.

This site is meant to be an exploration of my musings on philosophical topics and views of some of the newest art I'm creating, but it is woefully unattended too as I'm just TOO busy to update it often.
I also post new art on flickr.com/photos/zeroexp

Seemingly “magical moments” that happen when you are creating an improvised photograph. I didn’t construct the face that appears intentionally.

A discussion of Bacchus Adrift and Surfing with Psyche

February 5th, 2006

Surfing with Psyche
“Surfing with Psyche”

Bacchus Adrift
“Bacchus Adrift”
These images represent a current photographic style I’m working in which uses multi layered found objects, transparencies, other photos, drawings and items at hand to create a surreal landscape or psychoanalytic exploration. I’m influenced at the moment by the work of Clarence John Laughlin and the recent work of Gordon Parks (”Glimpse of Autumn”). The bottom image entitled, “Bacchus Adrift”, is done in this photo-contextual style and is my interpretation of the despair of the God of Wine - in the city New Orleans - in the aftermath of Katrina.

Precipitate

A Photo Contextual piece illustrating what floats to the surface (and what falls to bottom) during a process - it’s both personally representational of a psychological process in my life but the symbols (floating leaves in a pond, reflections on the surface, childlike expressionist scribbles, a hand/foot reaching towards a light which might be above or below) can also be interpreted uniquely by all persons. One dictionary definition calls Precipitate: A product resulting from a process, an event, or a course of action. In chemistry, it is a solid or solid phase separated from a solution. The word, from the Latin:
Praeceps - to throw headlong into, the adjective also means “Acting with or marked by excessive haste and lack of due deliberation.”
